Overview

The Lamar University Setzer Student Center plays a pivotal role in campus life. It houses multiple dining vendors, meeting rooms, a ballroom, and the bookstore. When it came time to update the aging structure, documentation of the original layout was insufficient. To remedy this, the client had begun a Revit model. However, they knew it was not going to be accurate enough to be workable in the field. They called in Spatial Acuity to get hyper-accurate measurements that would lead to a smoother remodel.

Process

A two-laser crew arrived on the scene and met with the client to assess their specific needs. The resulting plan of action was designed to work around the specific constraints of the project site and their schedule.

This is the first phase of any scan-to-Revit project. The laser scanning team scanned the building inside and out, from floor to ceiling to roof. Every inch (down to to a millimeter, actually) of the building was scanned and mapped for unmatched accuracy.

Result

The Revit model started by the client was not a total loss. Spatial Acuity’s modeling pros were able to adjust the original work to fit the finely tuned scan results from the laser team. After all the accuracy adjustments and modeled elements, the Revit model ended up at a LOD 300 level. Accurate models allowed the client to order more precise amounts of materials and build with fewer mistakes or delays.
